How should I prepare for AIIMs?

As there are only few months left for NEET 2020 if you are targetting to get admission in AIIMS Delhi, here’s what you need to know:

  1. NTA has declared that followed from 2020 only NEET exams are mandatory to get admissions in any Medical college including AIIMS.
  2. 15000 seats are added from the year 2020, therefore, there is a significant increase in the competition.
  3. 15 lac+ students have applied for the NEET 2020 exams. Competition is high!

All this is not to discourage you, however, you need to know the level of preparation you need to do. In order to crack AIIMS, you need to at least score 720+ out of 760 in the NEET 2020 UG.

Biology: It is interesting to note that 80 to 85 questions from 90 are purely NCERT based wherein 70 are direct questions while 30 to 35 are from diagrams, one-liners. While Biology holds 360 Marks in your NEET exams and you need to achieve a minimum of 355 Marks in Biology itself so that brings you closer to your goal of achieving 720+ for AIIMS Delhi.

Important Topics in Biology to thoroughly study are Diversity in the living world, Human physiology, Genetics and Evolution, Biotechnology and its application, Reproduction, Structural organization in plants and animals, Biology and human welfare, Cell structure and functions and Ecology and environment. Further, Chemistry holds 180 Marks wherein you must target to achieve 170+ in order to crack NEET for AIIMS. Physical Chemistry needs both NCERT and a reference material which could be either OP Tandon or N Awasthi for MCQs. Further, you can stick to NCERT for Inorganic Chemistry and for Organic Chemistry, you can rely on OP Tandon for detailed explanation and concepts.

Important Topics in Chemistry need both learning and practice. Topics like Aldehydes, Ketones And Carboxylic Acids, etc are something you cannot miss at all. In addition, Biomolecules, Chemical Bonding And Molecular Structure, Chemical Kinetics, Coordination Compounds, Equilibrium, Organic Chemistry - Some Basic Principles And Techniques, p-block Elements, Redox Reactions and Thermodynamics are some of the topics which can secure 100+ marks in your NEET exams. Learn all the important formulae. Also, you must know the derivation of all those formulas so that you understand the application.

Lastly, Physics again is for 180 Marks where you need to score again 170+ marks. However, for most NEET aspirants this is the most challenging subject and it needs the maximum effort for Medical students. Important Topics in Physics are: Here are some of the important topics to which can help you secure 90+ marks: Physics Electronic devices, Electrostatic, Heat and thermodynamics, Kinematics, Laws of motion, Magnetic effect of electric current, Oscillation and waves.

Lastly, Practice Mock Tests or Previous Years Papers are a must for you to crack NEET UG 2020 with flying numbers. Practice as many MCQs as possible from as many sources as possible. You must study and solve 10 previous years’ papers and prepare you with the difficulty level of questions asked in NEET exam. Avoid Negative marking: Save yourself from negative marking by not answering questions incorrectly. We usually recommend the aspirants to Analyze the Question paper and mark them into three categories such as - Easy(E), Medium (M) and Hard(H). Always start with the easy questions, then medium and towards the end attempt the hard questions. Don't stick to any question for long, move on and fill the theoretical questions first in physics and chemistry.
